LEONARDO DAVINCI AS GOD by Arthur Meiselman
Play
At the turn of the century, 1499, DaVinci is in Milan, under the patronage of Ludovico Sforza. On this momentous night, the French invade the city, forcing
the Duke to flee. Leonardo confronts two of the most profound decisions of his life. In secret work, known only to himself, he has created an entity which is a culminating blend of his science and his art.
He believes he cannot remain in the city, but if he leaves, he must destroy the work. At the same time, he struggles with an overwhelming relationship with a woman that has provoked a volatile contradiction of
emotions in his focused mind. He is committed to a life without women. Ginevra, the first "Mona Lisa", has pursued him in an effort to shatter that commitment.
She offers him a way to save his work in the face of the French invasion. The protection she offers includes her. This is a profile of Leonardo as a man, an unleashed artist, and a time traveler.
